Awards for Word Wings
FOR award-winning Aspley author Jennifer Poulter, her venture into self publishing has been an opportunity to collaborate with creative from around the world.
With more than 10 books published by mainstream publishers, Mrs Poulter created something new.
“I got a taste for collaboration working on Mending Lucille with illustrator Sarah Davis which went so well it gave me a taste for collaborating,” she said.
“Illustrators began contacting me to work with me so Word Wings was formed.”
Word Wings consists of more than 50 creatives in over 20 countries, collaborating to create beautiful books for people of all ages under Word Wings Books and, Word Wings for Kids, to entertain children, educate and encourage literacy.
“At first we tried an American publisher and got some books done, but it didn’t work out. However the whole experience was an education in book design and we learnt so much.
“I thought I can’t just leave this, so we looked at other options.
“We found Lulu (an American self publishing company) and now have 31 books published under Word Wings and more in development.
“It’s also fantastic that the books we’ve created are receiving rave reviews and winning international awards.
“Our books are up against books from the big publishing houses and their bringing home the awards. It’s wonderful for everyone involved.”
Mrs Poulter is also a literary poet, illustrates short stories and is studying screen writing.
