Adults help kids get to Jamboree
ADULTS will get in on the scout action on Saturday, October 7 with a trivia night and cent auction at Sacred Heart Hall.
After dropping their kids off at the den the parents will take part in the event to raise money for the 2019 Australian Jamboree.
The Jamboree is held once every third year and local scouts need to raise money to get to South Australia for the big event.
Sandgate Scout leader Travis Rosevear said apart from the lucky few who are under 12 by the end of the Jamboree, most Scouts only ever have one opportunity to attend an Australian Jamboree.
“It is arguably the largest camp a Scout will attend, spanning 10 days, with attendees exceeding 13,000. This could mean the Scouts double the population of Tailem Bend (where the event is being held).
“A scouts life (at camp) is packed from dawn to dusk, with activities planned across the whole 10 days. All this fun is made possible by the thousands of volunteers who give up their time to support our Scouts through this journey.”
Sandgate Scout Briget Galway is already looking forward to having a great time at Jamboree.
“The experience of being in a new place doing scouts,” she said.
“Because you can do many fun activities and camp with your friends.”
Originally 14 Sandgate scouts were interested in going and the number has now grown to 21 from the troop.
