Sweet Man­hat­tan

The Man­hat­tan, like all the best clas­sics, is a very sim­ple for­mula – just whiskey, ver­mouth and bit­ters. But it’s a for­mula that you can tin­ker with end­lessly. How­ever you make it, though, it al­ways lets the spirit shine through, which is why the Man­hat­tan has al­ways been a real whiskey-lover’s drink.

SERVES 1 PREP 5 mins NO COOK EASY V

50ml bour­bon or rye whiskey 25ml rosso ver­mouth

5ml syrup from a jar of maraschino cher­ries (I used Luxardo) 2 dashes an­gos­tura bit­ters ice for the gar­nish maraschino cherry a twist of pared lemon

Stir the in­gre­di­ents with ice in a mix­ing glass, then strain into a cock­tail glass. Gar­nish and serve.
