The ‘Vocktail’

-

Meet the ‘Vocktail’, aka the virtual reality cocktail – not actually a cocktail at all, it tastes, smells and feels like one thanks to genius technology. It may sound like an invention of the future, but an early model of the concept, dreamed up by Dr Nimesha Ranasinghe from the National University of Singapore, was seen at London’s Future Tech Now show in April. It uses a martini glass fitted with electrode strips around the rim which send electric pulses to stimulate the taste buds. The glass is linked to an app which controls lights and aromas. Select a drink on the app, then, once your tongue hits the glass rim, certain lights, colours and aromas are triggered, making the liquid you are drinking – it can even flavour plain water – taste like your chosen cocktail.
