LET THERE BE LIGHT
‘Lumens’ illuminates the overlooked and intangible through the work of 25 artists from China and Taiwan, including large-scale video portraits (right) by Zhang Peili that use light to align viewer and subject, and literalise the discomfort of seeing. Here, the viewer’s presence sets off a powerful flash of brightness, both in the gallery and on screen, with their attempts to acclimatise mirrored by the blinking, writhing expressions of the subjects.
