Volunteers at Red Cross Benalla have been left reeling after two items were allegedly stolen from an upcoming raffle.

Red Cross Benalla manager Ann Bailey said a casserole dish and box of soaps — both wrapped in cellophane and ribbon — were taken from a table inside the store that featured seven items available in an upcoming raffle.

‘‘I just can’t believe someone would take them from a raffle table,’’ Ms Bailey said.

‘‘It’s not a lot of money, but that’s not the point — I’m just disappointed they did it.’’

Ms Bailey said the opportunity store was holding a raffle each month, with new and unused items donated from members of the community.

‘‘It deprives us of money that I’m raising to go back into the community, especially now that we are coming into winter,’’ she said.

The opportunity shop is staffed by volunteers, two of whom were working at the time.

Ms Bailey said two women were in the Carrier St store when the items were allegedly stolen.

The raffle items have since been moved out of reach of the public, and Ms Bailey said they were having to add extra items to the raffle to make it substantial.
