Goulburn Valley Netball League pulled off another clean sweep on Saturday with victories in the open and under-17 games.
In the open game Goulburn Valley came from behind to stage a dramatic upset victory against Ballarat Netball League.
After receiving a late call-up to the squad on Friday, Benalla goaler Grace Thomas was exceptional, as was Benalla defender Grace Hide.
Down by 10 goals at three-quarter-time, the home side levelled the scores at 39-all at fulltime.
In two five-minute terms of overtime Goulburn Valley continued its fierce attack to claim a two-goal victory.
The under-17 squad, coached by Benalla’s Robyn Smith, also enjoyed victory against Ballarat Netball League.
The team led 15-3 at quarter-time and never relented in cruising to a 25-goal victory.
Fifteen-year-old Olivia Osborne was part of the victorious team, performing well at wing defence and centre.
Osborne plays A-grade with Benalla Saints after making her debut last year with Benalla Saints’ under 17s.
Smith tried different combinations to allow the majority of the squad plenty of court time.
‘‘The team led by 12 at quarter-time with some dynamic play, particularly strong defensive work making it really difficult for the Ballarat representative team to score,’’ Smith said.
‘‘The GV team has trained twice in the leadup to the interleague game on Saturday and the practice match against the A-grade Shepparton United team assisted enormously with the preparation.’’
Strong performance: Benalla’s Robyn Smith coached the under-17 side to victory, including Benalla Saints player Olivia Osborne (left).
