Ac­tion aplenty on court

With the Aus­tralian Open now over, ten­nis is back into full swing with Tues­day ladies, Satur­day morn­ing, Be­nalla District and Wed­nes­day evening com­pe­ti­tions all un­der­way.

On Sun­day Be­nalla Lawn Ten­nis Club hosted the North East Veter­ans with 62 play­ers util­i­sis­ing the courts all day.

The Veter­ans tour­na­ment at­tracted play­ers from the north east re­gion as well as from Bendigo, Mel­bourne and the Morn­ing­ton Penin­sula.

It was a suc­cess­ful day with play­ers en­joy­ing Be­nalla’s hos­pi­tal­ity, ex­cel­lent grass courts and the warm weather.

Be­nalla Lawn Ten­nis Club pres­i­dent Wendy Maxwell ac­knowl­edged the con­tri­bu­tion of the team of vol­un­teers who give their time on nu­mer- ous oc­ca­sions to en­able play­ers to en­joy the fa­cil­i­ties.

Be­nalla Lawn Ten­nis Club will also be host­ing the Bradtke Luczak Cup on the week­end of Fe­bru­ary 14 and 15.

The Bradtke Luczak Cup is a re­gional tour­na­ment for play­ers aged 15 and un­der.

Eleven re­gional teams are ex­pected to par­tic­i­pate with play­ers play­ing sin­gles and mixed dou­bles matches in a round robin for­mat.

Be­nalla Lawn Ten­nis Club last hosted a re­gional event in 2010 when the In­ter Re­gional Cham­pi­onships were played here, prior to this it was the Foun­da­tion Cup a tour­na­ment for 13 and un­der girls and the In­ter re­gional Cham­pi­onships again in 2001.

The Be­nalla Rovers Soc­cer Club will be hold­ing a Fam­ily Fun Reg­is­tra­tion Day on Fe­bru­ary 22.

This will in­clude small sided soc­cer games for ju­niors, and two main events: a pre-sea­son soc­cer match for the Be­nalla Se­nior side, and a pre-sea­son match for the women’s team.

The day will also in­clude a reg­is­tra­tion ta­ble for all new mem­bers want­ing to join.

Ju­nior train­ing will be held weekly at 5.30 pm on Tues­days.
