After a fantastic response during its inaugural year, The Benalla Collective is kicking off 2015 with another event to engage young people in the town.
The Benalla Collective formed last year when a small group of young professionals introduced the networking group in an effort to connect young people to each other and to their town.
Committee member Rachel Tharratt said the events were designed to make meeting new people feel less daunting.
‘‘Sometimes working in a small rural town such as Benalla can feel isolating or unstimulating, particularly for those who have moved from elsewhere for work and feel they have no way of making new friends or meeting new people,’’ she said.
‘‘The aim of The Benalla Collective is to give young people working in Benalla and surrounding areas an opportunity to make new friends and develop professional networks in a relaxed and fun setting.’’
The inaugural event last year was barefoot bowls, and despite the chilly weather it received rave reviews.
This year the group is kicking off with the same event — albeit in weather more appropriate for barefoot mingling.
‘‘It has been exciting to see the enthusiasm from people who participated in last year’s events and I am really looking forward to seeing how the group devel- ops during the coming year,’’ Ms Tharratt said.
‘‘It is open to everyone and we don’t want people to feel shy or apprehensive about attending.
‘‘It doesn’t matter if you have lived in Benalla for years or have just moved here and don’t know anyone, the invitation is open.
‘‘So come along and enjoy a fun night of bowling, good food and even better company.’’
The event will be held on Wednesday, February 26, at 6.30 pm at Moira Benalla Bowls Club, 1 Benalla St, Benalla. Entry is $10, inclusive of rink hire, dinner and entertainment. For catering purposes email email@example.com or visit The Benalla Collective’s Facebook page.
