Benalla Ensign

New bridge over creek

- By Libby Price

It was precisely two years ago that The Ensign reported on a dispute between residents of Gunns Lane and Benalla Rural City over a troubled bridge over Ryans Creek.

The council slapped a 14-tonne limit on the bridge that had seen better days, which prevented farmers and a local show jumping family from taking their loaded trucks over the bridge.

In the latter case, the horses had to be unloaded from the truck, walked across the bridge, and put back onto the truck, putting the valuable horses at risk.

There was quite a hue and cry at the time.

But all’s well that ends well.

The bridge has been rebuilt, reopened and now straddles far less troubled waters.
