Ballet comes to BPACC
Romeo and Juliet will be given a modern twist in a performance from the Melbourne City Ballet in its only north east Victorian performance on Thursday, September 15, at 8 pmat the Benalla Performing Arts and Convention Centre.
Shakespeare’s famous tragedy features masterful choreography by Artistic Director Michael Pappalardo.
The performance takes the audience to the city of Verona and into the lives of the two young lovers from two rival families, who develop a forbidden love that costs them their lives.
‘‘ Romeo and Juliet features beautiful foot work, dazzling costumes, evocative music and a powerful performance by some of Australia’s most formidable classically trained performing artists,’’ Melbourne City Ballet Company manager Sean Memery said.
BPACC will present an exclusive 60-minute workshop with Melbourne City Ballet’s professional artists as a prelude to the evening performance.
The workshop is open to student dancers of beginner, intermediate and advanced abilities. Participants have the opportunity to meet the cast members of Romeo and Juliet while also discovering the fundamentals of ballet artistry.
Workshop entry is free with the purchase of a nonrefundable ticket to the evening performance. Places are limited with bookings essential via the Box Office.
Romeo and Juliet will run for 120 minutes with two intervals (15 minutes each).
Ticket prices are $45 adults, $40 concession, $43 seniors, $38 students, $38 BPACC member, child $35 and $39 per person for groups of 10 or more.
