Ballet comes to BPACC

Romeo and Juliet will be given a modern twist in a performanc­e from the Melbourne City Ballet in its only north east Victorian performanc­e on Thursday, September 15, at 8 pmat the Benalla Performing Arts and Convention Centre.

Shakespear­e’s famous tragedy features masterful choreograp­hy by Artistic Director Michael Pappalardo.

The performanc­e takes the audience to the city of Verona and into the lives of the two young lovers from two rival families, who develop a forbidden love that costs them their lives.

‘‘ Romeo and Juliet features beautiful foot work, dazzling costumes, evocative music and a powerful performanc­e by some of Australia’s most formidable classicall­y trained performing artists,’’ Melbourne City Ballet Company manager Sean Memery said.

BPACC will present an exclusive 60-minute workshop with Melbourne City Ballet’s profession­al artists as a prelude to the evening performanc­e.

The workshop is open to student dancers of beginner, intermedia­te and advanced abilities. Participan­ts have the opportunit­y to meet the cast members of Romeo and Juliet while also discoverin­g the fundamenta­ls of ballet artistry.

Workshop entry is free with the purchase of a nonrefunda­ble ticket to the evening performanc­e. Places are limited with bookings essential via the Box Office.

Romeo and Juliet will run for 120 minutes with two intervals (15 minutes each).

Ticket prices are $45 adults, $40 concession, $43 seniors, $38 students, $38 BPACC member, child $35 and $39 per person for groups of 10 or more.
