Benalla A-grade

After leading the competitio­n for most of the season, a determined Possums outfit showed their class to overcome Kookaburra­s for a solid 4-1 victory in the final round of the Winter Pennant Competitio­n last week.

Adrian Squires was in fine touch, winning both singles, with teammate Chris Cooney taking one.

They easily won the doubles in straight sets.

Taipans produced some amazing form to outplay Plovers for an emphatic 4-1 victory.

Rob Erskine was at his best in claiming two singles, while Lee Horan chipped in for one.

They savoured the win by easily winning the doubles.

Echidnas fought back to overpower Rosellas, going on to a tight 3-2 victory.

Steve McCallum and Michelle Feldtmann each won a singles in a great display, before taking out the doubles in a marathon threesette­r.

John Bajada led Owls to an impressive 3-2 victory over Wallabies in a high standard match-up.

He was in great form in winning both singles.

Bajada then combined with Ray Grant to win the doubles in a hard-fought the match. three-setter

B-grade

Frogs had to produce their best to overcome a determined Bullants, prevailing for a tense 3-2 victory.

Lock Lidgerwood and Jack McNulty played extremely well to win a singles each before taking the doubles in three sets.

Eagles just held on to enjoy a 3-2 victory over Gliders in a hardfought match.

Reuben James was in good form to win both singles, with John Spencer backing up with one.

A fired-up Wombats crushed Numbats, playing well for an easy 4-1 victory.

James Arendt was too talented for the opposition, winning both singles in style.

He was well supported by Beth Grant, who played well to win a singles before taking out the doubles with Arendt in straight sets.

Mozzies flexed their muscles, showing no mercy to Redbacks for a 5-0 victory.

Rushi Kulkarni and John Holschier finally put it all together to win all their matches in style.

C-grade

to seal Crickets were too strong for Hawks, with Judy Amery leading the team to a powerful 4-1 victory.

She won both singles in a fine performanc­e, with Deb Callister claiming one.

They went on to easily win the doubles.

Top team Magpies easily accounted for Falcons, enjoying a solid 5-0 victory.

Jenny Sawyer and Heather Crawford were in fine touch, winning all their matches comfortabl­y.

Koalas showed great strength to outplay Doves, going on to an easy 5-0 victory.

Junior stars Kaleb Lissenden and Jackson Squires played brilliantl­y to win all their matches in style.

Semi-finals

A-grade: Possums v Taipans, Wallabies v Plovers. B-grade: Wombats v Frogs, Mozzies v Bullants. C-grade: Magpies v Doves, Crickets v Koalas.

Swanpool and District Table Tennis A-grade

The top two teams on the ladder, the Bombers and Eagles, played a close match in the Swanpool and District Table Tennis semi-finals.

It was the Bombers’ John Bajada and Colin Exton who maintained their top position, defeating the Eagles’ Shaun Murphy, Peter Rose and Jim Renkin 3-2.

Murphy excelled to win both of his singles rubbers while Exton and Bajada won a singles each plus the vital doubles win to seal the match.

The next two teams on the ladder, Falcons and Hawks, also had a close 3-2 match.

The Falcons’ Chris Cooney and Phil Howard won against the Hawks’ Adrian Squires and Rushi Kulkina.

Squires won both his singles rubbers while Howard and Cooney won a singles each and also the match-winning doubles.

A-reserve:

The match between the top two teams on the ladder, Cranes and Turtles, saw a resounding win to the Cranes, 4-1.

Cranes’ Tom Smith won both his singles while teammate Tim Butler and Turtles’ Mike Larkin won a singles each.

In the second A-reserve match the Cockies’ Thomas and Henry Hill fought hard to defeat the Sharks’ Chris Seeley and a substitute player, winning a close match at 3-2.

Top player was Thomas Hill winning both of his singles while Henry Hill and Seeley won a singles each.

B-grade:

At the Moorngag hall the B-grade finalists played two semifinal matches.

In the first the Saints’ Danny and Laura Grima defeated the Wedgies’ Ewen Oldmeadow and Ella Borg 4-1.

Danny Grima won both of his singles, while Oldmeadow and Laura Grima won a singles each.

In the final match at Moorngag, Pete and William Smith for the Dairyfarme­rs defeated the Vixens’ Rose Mathieson and Chanelle Lober 3-2.

Pete Smith won both his singles while Mathieson and Lober won a singles each.

The doubles win sealed match for Dairyfarme­rs.

Preliminar­y finals

the A-grade: Eagles v Falcons. Bombers have a rest week and will meet the winner of the preliminar­y final in the grand final. A-reserve: Turtles v the Cockies. The Cranes have the rest. B-grade: The Wedgies v the Dairyfarme­rs. The Saints have the rest.

All of this week’s matches will be played at the Tatong hall.
