Students visit Parliament House

-

Independent Member for Indi Cathy McGowan has congratulated student leaders from Benalla and Yarrawonga for their contribution to their communities, following their visit to Parliament House this week.

In a speech to parliament, Ms McGowan acknowledged the students from FCJ College Benalla and Sacred Heart College Yarrawonga.

‘‘These young people have really stepped up to take a leadership role in their schools,’’ Ms McGowan said.

‘‘They make such a difference to the calibre of our communities. They participate in their student representative council, in sport, the arts and community work. They have a real passion for social justice.

‘‘It was a pleasure to be able to discuss with them the way parliament works and to listen to their ideas and questions. They did Benalla and Indi proud.

‘‘To the Year 12 students preparing for their final exams who have played a leadership role as well as studying I particularly want to say: Thank you for your work.’’

The students were visiting Canberra as part of the Indi Leadership Acknowledgement Program.
