Saints keen to keep win­ning

Be­nalla Saints have fin­ished the nor­mal sea­son with a 21-point win away at Tatura.

The 48-27 vic­tory sees the Saints re­tain fourth place in the Goul­burn Val­ley Net­ball League, just in time for fi­nals, which start this Sun­day.

Saints head coach Dy­lan Nex­hip said it was a ‘‘great team win’’ over Tatura on Saturday.

‘‘The girls hope to take the win­ning streak into the first round of the fi­nals on this com­ing Sun­day,’’ Nex­hip said.

‘‘Ty­lah March­bank spec­tac­u­lar show in con­test all game.

‘‘Grace Thomas took the ball strongly in the at­tack­ing cir­cle and Ash Fee­han put ex­cel­lent pres­sure on the op­po­si­tion all game.

‘‘A su­perb fin­ish to the home and away sea­son for the girls.’’

Best on court for the A-grade side were March­bank, Thomas and Fee­han. Sun­day’s elim­i­na­tion final will see the Saints host the put on a a heated Shep­par­ton Swans at the Be­nalla Show­grounds. The game starts at 2.15 pm.

B-grade wrapped up its nor­mal sea­son with a 59-14 win over the Bull­dogs to see them keep top spot ahead of fi­nals.

The girls were never trou­bled in their game at Tatura.

The de­fen­sive pres­sure was in­tense all game and strong pass­ing en­sured in­creases in the lead at each change.

Best play­ers for the B-graders were Chloe Hill, Grace Warnock and Ge­or­gia Spencer.

The team fin­ished top of the lad­der and will play Shep­par­ton Swans on Saturday af­ter­noon at Mooroopna. The game starts at 5.30 pm.

The B-re­serve side also had a win over Tatura, 38-23.

Saints’ best play­ers were Milly Treacy, Abby Steegstra, Elise Amarant.

A win to fin­ish the sea­son for the B-re­serve team high­lighted the side’s im­prove­ment dur­ing the course of the year.

The un­der-17s side com­pleted the Be­nalla rout, de­feat­ing the Bull­dogs 66-26.

Best play­ers for the Saints were Kelsey Rigg, Tubby Robin­son and Shae Skel­ton.

Rigg used her height and strength in the goal cir­cle, shoot­ing ac­cu­rately and en­cour­ag­ing her team all game.

Robin­son showed ver­sa­til­ity play­ing in de­fence, then cen­tre and then fin­ish­ing the game at goal at­tack.
