Saints keen to keep winning
Benalla Saints have finished the normal season with a 21-point win away at Tatura.
The 48-27 victory sees the Saints retain fourth place in the Goulburn Valley Netball League, just in time for finals, which start this Sunday.
Saints head coach Dylan Nexhip said it was a ‘‘great team win’’ over Tatura on Saturday.
‘‘The girls hope to take the winning streak into the first round of the finals on this coming Sunday,’’ Nexhip said.
‘‘Tylah Marchbank spectacular show in contest all game.
‘‘Grace Thomas took the ball strongly in the attacking circle and Ash Feehan put excellent pressure on the opposition all game.
‘‘A superb finish to the home and away season for the girls.’’
Best on court for the A-grade side were Marchbank, Thomas and Feehan. Sunday’s elimination final will see the Saints host the put on a a heated Shepparton Swans at the Benalla Showgrounds. The game starts at 2.15 pm.
B-grade wrapped up its normal season with a 59-14 win over the Bulldogs to see them keep top spot ahead of finals.
The girls were never troubled in their game at Tatura.
The defensive pressure was intense all game and strong passing ensured increases in the lead at each change.
Best players for the B-graders were Chloe Hill, Grace Warnock and Georgia Spencer.
The team finished top of the ladder and will play Shepparton Swans on Saturday afternoon at Mooroopna. The game starts at 5.30 pm.
The B-reserve side also had a win over Tatura, 38-23.
Saints’ best players were Milly Treacy, Abby Steegstra, Elise Amarant.
A win to finish the season for the B-reserve team highlighted the side’s improvement during the course of the year.
The under-17s side completed the Benalla rout, defeating the Bulldogs 66-26.
Best players for the Saints were Kelsey Rigg, Tubby Robinson and Shae Skelton.
Rigg used her height and strength in the goal circle, shooting accurately and encouraging her team all game.
Robinson showed versatility playing in defence, then centre and then finishing the game at goal attack.
