B-grade

The Bushies’ B-Grade team provided the highlight of the day’s cricket with a nail-biting draw against Rovers United Bruck at the Friendlies reserve.

The visitors won the toss and opted to bat before the Bushies’ side, which combined youth and experience, put on a solid display in the field to bowl RUB out for 106 in the 34th over.

Trevor Saker led the charge with the ball, removing both opening RUB batsmen cheaply.

Saker finished with 3/9 from his eight overs and master of the mullet Brodie Woolley got the same number of scalps for 36 runs from his eight overs.

Deakyn Kohler and Oli Chivers picked up two wickets each and the sharp keeping skills of Gurpeet Singh resulted in a catch and stumping.

The B-Grade side’s run chase got off to a shaky start with Nick Jacobs runout after for two.

Steve Siggers, Rhett Woolley and Richard Hubbard were patient and took the score to 52 before Siggers was out LBW for 13, Hubbard made 19.

Unfortunately the tail did not wag that much and when the last wicket fell in the 35th over, the scores were tied.

Saker finished not-out 10 and Brodie Woolley made eight.

With a good bowling attack, including Charlie DeWinne, Jasper DeFazio and Tom Hayes, the Under14s stand a good chance next week.

The Under-12s lost a close game against the Yarrawonga-Mulwala Bulls, playing in Yarrawonga.

The Bulls batted first and retired, the Bushies did a great job to keep the home side to 69 runs.
