Residents have a ball at annual spring dance
The Annual Spring Social Dance, organised by Cooinda, brought together residents from several local aged-care facilities on Thursday.
More than 100 people attended this year’s event at St Joseph’s Hall last Thursday.
Residents of Cooinda, Estia, Morrie Evans and Bindaree in Mansfield joined Benalla Rural City HACC clients, Benalla Health Day Care clients and community members to enjoy a day of reconnecting with friends and fun.
Highlights of the dance were the ballroom and rock ‘n’ roll demonstrations as well as entertainer, Denis Tucker, who kept the dance floor busy.
The event was expertly emceed by Patty O’Brien and the Swanpool Catering Team served a delicious lunch to everyone in attendance.
‘‘Cooinda’s Annual Spring Social Dance is a favourite event on our residents’ calendar each year,’’ Cooinda chief executive and director of nursing Margaret Aldous said.
‘‘We work hard to ensure the annual dance continues, as it is a great opportunity for the residents from aged-care facilities across the district to meet up, many of whom have known each other for years.
‘‘Social activities, such as singing and dancing, have also been proven in research to be very beneficial to the physical and emotional wellbeing of people.
‘‘We notice a renewed vibrancy in our residents in the days leading up to and after the event, which is great to see.’’
