Best conquers treacherous track

The second practice session did not go to plan.
‘‘I caused a red flag when I hit the wall at turn one after over-correcting to avoid a car who didn’t see me as they were exiting the pits,’’ he said.
‘‘I locked up the wheels and nosed it into the tyre wall.
‘‘The AGI team did an amazing job to fix the car with only one hour before the qualifying session where I managed qualify in position 10.’’

After 11 laps Best took out position nine for the round. Final presentations were held at the The Arts Centre on the Gold Coast, where teammate Nick Rowe was crowned the 2017 CAMS Jayco Australian Formula 4 Champion.
‘‘It’s been an amazing year, to finish 10th outright,’’ he said.
‘‘I have learned so much this year from my engineer at AGI Sport and teammates.
‘‘I am thankful for support of my family: Mum, Dad and sister Ellexandra, and the backing from my supporters.’’
Best is now looking forward to competing in the Winton 300 where he will team up with sister Ellexandra, dad Darren, while mum Treena will manage the team.
‘‘And for next year, plans are not confirmed yet, as to what I will be racing in 2018,’’ he said.
