Best fulfils lifelong dream testing supercar
Benalla FCJ student Zak Best, 16, has fulfilled a lifelong dream by testing an ex-Stone Brothers V8 FG Falcon supercar.
Zak completed four sessions of about 40 laps in hot and trying conditions at Winton Motor Raceway, which was his first time driving a V8 car.
The FG Falcon can sensationally hit speeds of more than 200 km/h, which didn’t deter the excited high school student.
‘‘I was pretty pleased with how the test went, each session I got quicker and more comfortable with the car,’’ he said.
‘‘It was an amazing experience, thanks to Terry Wyhoon and the Image Racing team for the opportunity.’’
Zak started racing cars in 2016 when he was 14 and has previously competed in the Aussie Racing Car Series where he was runner up Rookie of the Year.
He also competed at the 2017 CAMS Jayco Australian Cams Formula 4 Championship.
‘‘I’m hoping to compete in the Khumo Tyre V8 Touring Car Series,’’ Zak said.
The Khumo Tyre series is five rounds of racing starting at Phillip Island and ending at the new Tailem Bend track in South Australia.
Zack is gearing up for a huge 2018 and is offering partnership opportunities to be involved with his team.
‘‘We are working hard now to try and pull together a budget for 2018 and would welcome anyone who would like to come involved as a partner,’’ Zak said.
