Women urged to get on bus

Benalla Ensign - - News -

Benalla women can travel to Shepparton free of charge for breast screenings as part of an initiative being offered by Benalla Community Health.

State Member for Euroa Steph Ryan is encouraging local women to take up the offer.

‘‘According to BreastScreen Victoria, only 54 per cent of women in the Euroa electorate were screened in 2014-2016, which is only a one per cent improvement from the 2013-15 said.

‘‘There are 4823 local women between 50-74 years who did not have a breast screen in the past two years.

‘‘This result is on par with the state average of 54 per cent but well below the 70 per cent target set by BreastScreen Victoria.

‘‘Thanks to this initiative by Benalla Community Health, you can now catch the bus to Shepparton free of charge.’’

The next ‘‘Boob Bus’’ period,’’ Ms Ryan is scheduled for Wednesday, February 21, departing Benalla Community Care in Coster St at 12.10 pm and returning by 5 pm.

The bus will travel to Shepparton where participants will have their mammograms before sharing afternoon tea together.

Participants are encouraged to bring their lunch and some afternoon tea to share.

To book, phone Benalla Community Health on (03) 5761 4500.
