College offers students intensive career program
Benalla P-12 College is offering students a ‘‘career intensive and portfolio development program’’ that was originally founded by a Victorian Government Grant.
Coordinator Sue Oakley said a significant part of the program included several weeks of explicit teaching, where students reflected on their values, personal attributes and employability skills to set goals for the future.
‘‘Their achievement portfolio is very comprehensive and contains a career action plan, which is designed to be revisited in years 10, 11 and 12, acting as a guide for good subject choices and opportunities after Year 12 completion,’’ Ms Oakley said.
Next term students will complete 2019 Year 10 Course selection, including the option of fast-tracking VCE subjects.
All current years 9, 10 and 11 students, together with their parents/carers will attend a senior school information session.
At the session there will be appointment sheets available for parents/carers to sign up for an individual course counselling appointment held in August.
During this appointment students will review their academic progress, present their Achievement Portfolio and complete their Career Action Plan together with a family member.
Prospective students and their families are also welcome to attend these sessions.
