Col­lege offers stu­dents in­ten­sive career pro­gram

Be­nalla P-12 Col­lege is of­fer­ing stu­dents a ‘‘career in­ten­sive and port­fo­lio de­vel­op­ment pro­gram’’ that was orig­i­nally founded by a Vic­to­rian Gov­ern­ment Grant.

Co­or­di­na­tor Sue Oak­ley said a sig­nif­i­cant part of the pro­gram in­cluded sev­eral weeks of ex­plicit teach­ing, where stu­dents re­flected on their val­ues, per­sonal at­tributes and em­ploy­a­bil­ity skills to set goals for the fu­ture.

‘‘Their achieve­ment port­fo­lio is very com­pre­hen­sive and con­tains a career ac­tion plan, which is de­signed to be re­vis­ited in years 10, 11 and 12, act­ing as a guide for good sub­ject choices and opportunities af­ter Year 12 com­ple­tion,’’ Ms Oak­ley said.

Next term stu­dents will com­plete 2019 Year 10 Course se­lec­tion, in­clud­ing the op­tion of fast-track­ing VCE sub­jects.

All cur­rent years 9, 10 and 11 stu­dents, to­gether with their par­ents/car­ers will at­tend a se­nior school in­for­ma­tion ses­sion.

At the ses­sion there will be ap­point­ment sheets avail­able for par­ents/car­ers to sign up for an in­di­vid­ual course coun­selling ap­point­ment held in Au­gust.

Dur­ing this ap­point­ment stu­dents will re­view their aca­demic progress, present their Achieve­ment Port­fo­lio and com­plete their Career Ac­tion Plan to­gether with a fam­ily mem­ber.

Prospec­tive stu­dents and their fam­i­lies are also wel­come to at­tend these ses­sions.
