Saints unable to overcome Dogs
Benalla Saints netballers’ strong second half on the courts could not prevent them from falling to their 10th loss this season.
Playing against the Tatura Bulldogs on Saturday, the Benalla Saints kept the scoreline respectable in the third and fourth quarters with a strong showing, but it couldn’t save them from losing the match — the end score 28-46 in the Dogs’ favour.
The Saints were in with a chance for the first quarter, six goals down at the first whistle.
But it went downhill shortly afterwards — and by half-time the Dogs’ lead had doubled to 12 and the Saints were in trouble.
The home side went goal for goal for the majority of the third spell, only letting a few more slip through as the Dogs extended the lead to 15 goals going into the last.
In the final term, again the Saints put on a good show in their highestscoring quarter of the match (nine goals), but the Dogs’ attack was too ferocious and once again they extended the lead by three.
The loss leaves the Saints on the bottom of the Goulburn Valley Netball League ladder with one win from 11 matches.
Tatura meanwhile remains in seventh, just eight points short of a finals berth.
Next up for the Saints is an away game against high-flying Seymour.
The Lions sit on the second rung of the ladder, boasting nine wins and just two losses from their season so far. Greta 3.7, 7.9, 10.11, 12.14 (86) Goorambat 1.1, 4.1, 5.6, 5.8 (38) GOALS Greta: C.
