Benalla Rural City Council is looking for a new chief executive officer after Tony McIlroy indicated he would not reapply for the position when his current contract runs out in December.

Mr Mcilroy has had a long career in the local government sector, putting in more than 42 years, 15 as the BRRC CEO.

Mayor Don Firth said the position of the chief executive officer had been advertised in accordance with Section 94(3) of the Local Government Act 1989.

‘‘The current CEO contract of employment is for a four-year term expiring on December 31,’’ Cr Firth said.

‘‘These advertising and recruitment processes take quite some time, so it is time for us to begin now before the expiry of the current contract.

‘‘Mr McIlroy has been with the council for more than 15 years. He has led it from the time of deamalgamation, which was operationally and financially very challenging to the stable and sustainable position it is in today.

‘‘Mr McIlroy has indicated he will not be applying for the position.’’
