All three of the Goulburn Valley League Football Grand Finals will be live streamed this year, bringing the game to more fans than ever before.
McPherson Media Group has been selected from an expression of interest process to call, produce and distribute the matches on Sunday, September 23.
The stream will be available across the group’s mastheads, including the Benalla Ensign.
The GVL senior football preliminary final between Echuca and Shepparton Bears on Sunday at Deakin Reserve will also be live streamed, ensuring the biggest matches of the year will be accessible to all.
GVL chairman David Roff said it was an exciting prospect to grow the league past the immediate region.
‘‘I just think it’s a great way to try and get the message out and expose the lea- gue to a lot of new people,’’ Roff said.
‘‘We had been concerned that it might have had an impact on the gate takings, but it’s a real opportunity to promote the game and show it to people who can’t make it because they’re interstate or overseas.’’
Roff said the ability to watch the game online or listen to the radio coverage while at the ground gave supporters a number of options to add to their enjoyment of grand final day.
‘‘We’re excited at the opportunities this brings for supporters, the league and our sponsors,’’ he said.
The stream will also include netball coverage of scores across the day, as well as footage from the court during half-time of each of the football matches.
The Morrison Medal and Wellman Family Medal presentation night will also be live streamed from Shepparton RSL on Monday, Sep- tember 17, beginning the build up to the GVL grand final.
McPherson Media Group live streamed Shepparton’s defeat of Echuca in round nine this year and successfully covered Murray Football League matches and medal counts.
McPherson Media Group managing director Damian Trezise said the company was excited to be able to bring the game the biggest audience in its history.
‘‘All the mastheads in McPherson Group are making great strides in the new digital era and the idea of events such as the GVL finals being live from, literally anywhere in the world would have been laughed at only a few years ago,’’ Trezise said.
‘‘So, we are delighted to be partnering the GVL for this major first in its history.’’
The winner of this weekend’s preliminary final will book a spot in the Grand Final against Kyabram.
