Show a winner

Despite some rain, and maybe the loudest thunder clap ever heard by human ears, the 2018 Benalla Show was a big success.

Running from Friday morning until Sunday afternoon, the show brought out the best in Benalla with smiling faces and genuine appreciation of all the exhibits, rides, food and animals on display.

Friday had perfect show weather, and while the skies attempted to dampen the mood on Saturday it was to no avail.

In fact, during the brief downpours the crowd congregated under canopies and grandstands, and people chatted away to new friends and old.

Some of us used the excuse that if we stood under the canopy of a doughnut and coffee van it would have been rude not to indulge in copious amounts of both.

Show organiser Genevieve Saunders said the show was fantastic despite the weather.

‘‘We had a really weekend,’’ she said.

‘‘We had great numbers across all the sections and I think everyone had a good time.

‘‘The personal highlight for me was Dave Russell returning and Cam White’s Pro BMX team.

‘‘And we were really happy with the number of people who braved the weather to come out and spend some time at the show.

‘‘It was more than expected and we’re very thankful.’’ good
