Week celebrates children
It’s National Children’s week (October 19 to 28) and it’s time for Benalla’s youngsters to unleash their imaginations to celebrate.
Benalla Rural City is holding a Children’s Week competition which encourages youngsters to complete a creative project such as a drawing, poem, collage or comic strip, to demonstrate what family means to them.
Acting Mayor Cr Peter Davis said Children’s Week was important to celebrate and encourage children.
‘‘The children of our rural city are the future of our communities,’’ Cr Davies said.
‘‘This Children’s Week activity is a fantastic opportunity to put the focus on children, their needs and their achievements.’’
The theme of this year’s national event is ‘Children’s views and opinions are re- spected. They have the right to express those views freely in all matters affect- ing the child and the right to be heard.’
Prizes include art packs worth $150 and $70 BPACC Cinema vouchers. They will be awarded across three age groups: 4-6 years; 7-9 years; and 10-12 years.
Entries must be submitted to Benalla Community Care Ray Sweeney Centre at 45 Coster St, Benalla by Monday, October 29.
Competition flyers have been distributed to all local kindergartens and primary schools. Flyers can also be found at Benalla Communi- ty Care and at Benalla Rural City Council’s Customer Service Centre.
Prizes will be drawn on Monday, November 5.
Winning entries will be on display at the council’s Customer Service Centre from November 5 to 9.
Children’s Week is presented by Benalla Rural City Council in partnership with the Department of Education and Training.
