• Bearers – 90 x 90mm H4 treated pine • Joists – 90 x 45mm H3 treated pine • Decking – 137 x 23mm Ekodeck composite decking in Greystone • Step frame – 150 x 50mm treated pine sleepers

Crowbar; sledgehammer; shovel; hammer; wrecking bar; pincers; angle grinder fitted with metal cutting blade; concrete mix; bricks; mortar mix; 230mm square ant caps; nail gun and nails; stringline; drop saw fitted with finetoothed blade; drill; countersinking bit; 50mm stainless-steel decking screws; chalkline; 4mm plastic spacers
Here’s how
STEP 1 To extend deck into porch area, demolish concrete using a crowbar and sledgehammer. Excavate ground to match level of ground under existing deck. STEP 2 Use a hammer and wrecking bar to pull up and remove old decking.
STEP 3 Use pincers to pull up old nails from remaining jousts. If nails break or can’t be removed, use an angle grinder ➤
