• Bear­ers – 90 x 90mm H4 treated pine • Joists – 90 x 45mm H3 treated pine • Deck­ing – 137 x 23mm Ekodeck com­pos­ite deck­ing in Grey­stone • Step frame – 150 x 50mm treated pine sleep­ers

You’ll also need

Crow­bar; sledge­ham­mer; shovel; ham­mer; wreck­ing bar; pin­cers; an­gle grinder fit­ted with metal cut­ting blade; con­crete mix; bricks; mor­tar mix; 230mm square ant caps; nail gun and nails; string­line; drop saw fit­ted with fine­toothed blade; drill; coun­ter­sink­ing bit; 50mm stain­less-steel deck­ing screws; chalk­line; 4mm plas­tic spac­ers

Here’s how

STEP 1 To ex­tend deck into porch area, de­mol­ish con­crete us­ing a crow­bar and sledge­ham­mer. Ex­ca­vate ground to match level of ground un­der ex­ist­ing deck. STEP 2 Use a ham­mer and wreck­ing bar to pull up and re­move old deck­ing.

STEP 3 Use pin­cers to pull up old nails from re­main­ing jousts. If nails break or can’t be re­moved, use an an­gle grinder ➤
