HOW TO ADD DETAIL TO CUPBOARDS

Bring traditiona­l flair to flat-faced doors and drawers with squares or rectangles of pine moulding.

Gather your supplies

Kaboodle Kitchen Paint Your Own doors and drawer fronts (panels); 2mm plastic packers; ruler; pencil; lengths of pine moulding, mitre-cut to suit; PVA glue; cloth; drill and bits; hammer; small nails; punch; wood filler; handsaw; fine-grit sandpaper; paintbrush; mini roller; acrylic primer; Dulux Aquanamel Semi Gloss in Vivid White

Here’s how

STEP 1 Lay 1 set of panels on the work surface. Align them as they will appear once on the cabinets. Place packers between the panels. Mark the desired position of moulding with ruler and pencil. STEP 2 Apply PVA to back of 1 length of moulding. Align with correspond­ing pencil marks.

STEP 3 Predrill even spread of pilot holes in moulding. Hammer nails through holes.

STEP 4 Repeat

Steps 2–3 to affix other 3 lengths of moulding.

STEP 5 Punch nails just below surface. Fill holes. Wipe any PVA spills with dampened cloth.

STEP 6 Using saw, cut moulding at gaps between panels.

STEP 7 Lightly rub surfaces with sandpaper. Wipe away dust.

STEP 8 Using brush and roller, apply primer. Let dry. Apply 2 coats of Aquanamel. Let dry after each coat.

STEP 9 Repeat steps 1–8 to trim remaining sets of panels. Fit panels to cabinets, following product directions.
