Finding profit in today’s waste
Specialist trucks bring efficiency to waste game
THE AUSTRALASIAN Waste and Recycling Expo at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre in late August was the place for hundreds of waste and recycling professionals from around the world.
The diversity of their collective travel itineraries was more than matched by the innovation and technology on show.
It included solar compactors, green kitchen bins, electronic waste recycling systems, site-based and on-board/in-motion weighing systems, waste and recycling road vehicles.
Isuzu Australia was on hand not just to observe but to display and promote its newest developments and to garner the waste and recycling industry’s response first hand.
“We pride ourselves on being market leaders when it comes to adopting new technology and understanding what our clients, be they current or future, require to get the job done,” Isuzu’s national sales manager Les Spaltman said.
“AWRE is a bit of a onestop shop when it comes to the future of waste management and recycling, so we were excited to be amongst it and to showcase a very strong product.”
On show, as seen here, was the Isuzu FSR 850 Dual Control, which is purposebuilt for waste applications.
It has a 14-tonne GVM and its SITEC Series III 235, turbo-charged and intercooled, 7.8 litre, sixcylinder, 24-valve single overhead cam diesel producing 176kW at 2400 rpm and 706Nm of torque at 1450 rpm.
The FSR has more than enough capacity to handle the hard slog of working with waste.
Its design retains existing cab electrical harnesses and uses additional wiring harnesses that “plug and play” and provide reliable operation of functions such as fuel gauges, odometer readings, and full safety interlocks for the driving control change-over.
The FSR also features an Allison LCT2500 6-speed automatic transmission, power assisted recirculated ball steering, and fully integrated dual controls.
In terms of driver comfort, the FSR boasts cruise control, left and right-hand side ISRI 6860 seats with integrated seatbelts and air suspension.
