HAPPY truckie Les Curry drives a 2012 Volvo FH16 with a 600hp motor and automatic gearbox for Jimboomba company RTL Transport.
The 49-year-old Les has been with the company for more than two decades.
“I am carting cardboard from Wacol to Innisfail in north Queensland,” Les said when I saw him at the BP Cluden on August 16.
“I have a backload of produce to pick up at Bowen for Brisbane,” he said.
Les has been a truckie since he was aged 18 and can’t see that changing in the future. “This is a pretty good truck,” he said. The veteran truckie said the BP Cluden was a great place to stop and was asked the worst road he gets along.
“The one between Charters Towers and Clermont heading south,” he said.
Les doesn’t have any major hobbies but has a favourite recreation when he gets time off. “I like to have a few coldies at home,” he said. One of the things Les doesn’t like is driving past where crashes have been, especially when a death occurred. “It makes me wonder how they happen,” he said.
