Dave Harper

Big Rigs - - TRUCKIN’ IN THE TROPICS WITH ALF WILSON -

ON the front of the 1998 Ford Louisville driven by owner-driver Dave Harper are the words: “He’s Gone Walkabout Again”.

Based at Coonabarabran in NSW the company is named JayDee Haulage and is run by the 52-year-old Dave and his partner Joan Poyser.

“I go Australia wide and I don’t get home as often as I would like - so that is the reason for the sign,” he explained.

Big Rigs yarned to Dave at the BP Cluden in Townsville on August 16 and he was transporting army equipment.

Dave was asked if he had any gripes about the industry and was quick to answer.

“Rates are a very big problem and so are bad roads, caravans and some of the food. The highway between Miles and Goondiwindi is terrible,” he said.

When Dave was asked to nominate a roadhouse he likes he went for the Puma Bohle on the northern outskirts of Townsville.

His aim is to spend more time at home with his family.
