Vacant land causes lot of trouble

READERS were outraged to hear a few drivers had been hit with parking fines for resting in a vacant lot off the M1.

■ Jevan H: When someone has an accident due to fatigue after not being able to park somewhere due to fines these clowns should be charged under the duty of care as well.

■ Brenden H: Don’t use those free, vacant, safe and out-of-the-way areas.

Make it a day Australia-wide and park all your trailers in front of government buildings to inconvenience those sitting in an office making stupid decisions for those people who actually work for a living.

■ Phil M: Yep, local councils and NHVR need to get together and work something out so we can get decent places to park up legally for our rest breaks. With very little parking available at truck stops, which are often filled by local drivers, there are no other options.

Large parking areas like the Nhill changeover area and fatigue parking bay areas are needed. Even in Cooper St at Epping BP the land next to it could be bought by the council for heavy vehicle parking.
