Big Rigs - - TRUCKIN’ IN THE TROPICS WITH ALF WILSON -

VETERAN truckie Neal Rollo drives a Western Star for Caloundra-based Pacific Carrying and was hauling pipes when Big Rigs had a yarn with him in late October.

Aged 57, Neal has been a driver for more than 30 years and has no desire to change.

“It is a great life on the road and I meet lots of different people,” he said.

Having said that, Neal reckons there are some things that could be improved for truckies, including some better roads.

“The highway between Gin Gin and Rockhampton needs a lot of work and that is just one bad section,” he said.

Diminutive Neal stands at 165cm tall, which he says has advantages and some disadvantages.

The friendly driver is also an avid Brisbane Broncos supporter in the NRL and is hopeful they will improve in season 2018.

The truckie said after recent rain, all drivers should be extra careful, particularly regionally.

“A driver backed into a power pole north of Proserpine the other day,” he said
