Leeroy’s takes on custom design of the T900 Legend

Big Rigs - - NEWS -

GIRL’S Got Rhythm.

To most others it’s the name of an AC/DC song.

But to truck driver Darren Drain, it’s the name of his T900 Legend Kenworth and a tribute to his wife.

“It’s truck number 22, which is appropriate because that’s my wife’s birthday,” he said.

The truck is still being worked on by Lee at Leeroy’s Truck Stainless and Fabrication but has already been painted in Melbourne.

“We did some metallic red and orange stripes, (the truck) is straight white with some stripes on it,” Darren said.

“We tried to do an old-school paint job (to reflect) the era when the truck was released in the early ’90s.”

Lee, from Leeroy’s Truck and Stainless Fabrication, said some of the customisation included a customised rear tail light, smooth mount mudguards, 7-inch exhausts, aluminium walk plates, a bumper bar and lights, and other stainless work all over the truck.

The Legend is quite a special truck – it’s a limited edition with very few made.

As for the rest of Darren’s fleet for his business, DF and DL Drain Transport, based in Ayr in north Queensland, the trucks are Kenworths and Western Stars.

They are general carriers servicing Queensland and the southern states, including runs anywhere from Brisbane, Sydney, Cairns and Townsville, with odd runs to Mt Isa, Victoria and Western Australia.

Girl’s Got Rhythm will slot right in with the others and be used during work hours.

Darren’s been in the transport industry since he was 18, which was when he got his licence.

He didn’t come from a trucking family and still asks himself why he decided to go down that path, but he says he wouldn’t change it and enjoys his days.
