Mackay Regional Council’s proposed laws for truck owners

MACKAY Regional Council has moved to make it harder for truck owners to park their vehicles on their own private property, even large rural blocks, a coalition of the trucking industry, AgForce and the Transport Workers’ Union claim.

Truckies were quick to show their dislike of the possible law.

Ann-Marie Hicks: The industry seriously needs to promote truckies and what they provide to the community and Australia. Too bad the companies/owner operators couldn’t get together and shut down for a couple of days. Imagine the up roar from the public when there is no food, fuel, medical supplies.

Beggsy Beggs: If every truck operator writes to the council and tells them that they won’t vote for them at the next election the laws won’t be

passed. Business owners need to write in and tell the council that they will close down and how many jobs they will take with them.

Gen Lehner: We got approached by local council about us bringing our trucks up our driveway. We were told to apply for permits which were a few grand then told oh by the way it can’t be seen from the road. We can park it in the road out the front for no longer than a hour I think it was. It’s a absolute joke but apparently anything over 4.5T is not allowed up ya own friggin driveway!

CHANGES: Truckies are not happy with the new proposal.
