$4m funding covers training

Big Rigs - - EDITORIAL | OPINION -

VICTORIAN Premier Daniel Andrews pledged $4 million in funding to cover training of 800 new heavy vehicle drivers in partnership with the VTA and others, should the Labor Government be re-elected.

■ Brian Bates: Stop over regulating the industry and all the experienced drivers will stay.

■ Alan Rutland: The money will only go to RTOs who will rip off the scheme and pay trainers nothing. Small training providers will not be able to compete. ■ Graham Bundesen: And where are you going to find them from, every company wants more drivers, they have to do more to keep good operators in the industry otherwise its just a revolving door , train all you like but if they wont stay because of the bulls**t then its just a waste of time and money.

■ Max Englebert: How can these imports get a job driving here yet our own kids can’t get a start in this industry?
