Carriers demand answers
THE president of the Livestock and Rural Transport Association of WA (LRTAWA), Andy Jacob, has called for more transparency about why WA’s largest sheep exporter has had its export licence cancelled.
Mr Jacob said some of his members would be so badly affected that their businesses would be wound up.
“We have members that have not carried a sheep for more than nine weeks, which has had a serious impact on their cash flow and ability to meet their commitments,” he said.
“With such severe implications for transporters and others in the supply chain it is critical we understand exactly what has caused this decision.
“Industry has been very open in accepting the need for continuous improvement and it is important we all learn from this situation.”
Mr Jacob said he was seeking recognition that the impact of the decision would have far reaching ramifications.
