TEFCO celebrates milestone
WHEN Richard and Sue Brown founded TEFCO Trailers 30 years ago, they never imagined it would expand and achieve the success it now has.
From humble beginnings, the company began in the country town of Goulburn in regional New South Wales as a trailer repair workshop with a team of five.
They quickly progressed into manufacturing of new trailers, where Richard and Sue saw the need for a strong durable aluminium tipping trailer to meet the demands of the growing grain industry.
The expansion of a second manufacturing plant in Brisbane 18 years later represented exceptional growth for the company and opened the door for TEFCO to enter into new markets, including the recycled products trailer range.
On August 8, TEFCO trailers turned the “big 3-0” and while it was a small celebration with cake in the office, the achievement is huge.
Thirty years in the trailer manufacturing business is a testament to the skill, integrity, industry reputation and, most importantly, the team of a brand that builds a product to withstand everything the trucking industry can throw at it.
“We are a family business and work closely with all our staff. I think that’s why people enjoy working at TEFCO,” Sue said.
“Our first apprentice is still working in our business today, along with many staff that have been with TEFCO for over 20 years.”
TEFCO has always been an innovator with its trailer designs.
Many features of today’s trailer additions can be attributed to TEFCO’s in-house engineering team, including the introduction of creased sidewalls to increase strength and remove the “chatter” when empty and the externally mounted hoist originally custom designed for JRT Bulk Haulage in Braemar, NSW, in the early ’90s to eliminate the need for an internal hoist well.
The front mounted hoist was the first of its kind in Australia and became a popular model.
Thirty years on and with 120 more staff on hand, TEFCO Trailers now produce a line-up of tipping trailers, including tri-axles, sliding and roll master A trailers; rigid bodies; three, four, five and six-axle dogs; and even roadtrains in a choice of tip-over axle, chassis tipper, front-mounted hoist or fixed tip.
Expanding even further to their range, this year TEFCO trailers have added Trail Kings live bottom trailers to their portfolio to open opportunities in the asphalting industry.
