Ray Steele

Big Rigs - - TRUCKIN’ IN THE TROPICS -

RAY Steele drives a Kenworth 200 for Newcastle based Lampson Heavy Haulage and was walking to the BP Cluden Roadhouse for a shower when Big Rigs saw him on August 5. The 53-year-old Ray has been a truckie for 30 years. “I and going to Mareeba on the Atherton Tablelands to pick up a load,” he said.

Ray was asked which was the worst road he travels along when working.

“It would have to be the one between Dingo and Nebo which is very rough at places,” he said.

A self confessed shy man of few words, Ray was asked for the roadhouse he enjoys stopping at the most. “They are all good,” he said. Ray barracks for the St George Dragons in the NRL and the side looks the goods for finals football this year.

Although the day before this interview, the New Zealand Warriors had beaten the Dragons 18-12 in what was an upset.

However the Dragons returned to form in round 23 with a 20-10 win over the Wests Tigers.

Ray said the Kenworth was a good truck which did the job well.
