Chris Hockey

Big Rigs - - TRUCKIN’ IN THE TROPICS -

LIKE many truckies around Australia, long-time owner-operator Chris Hockey is considered by some to be a genuine lookalike of a famous actor.

Big Rigs saw Chris at the BP Cluden on August 5 he was resting up and I pointed out he was a clone of the late Hollywood actor Charlton Heston.

In the hit movie Ben Hur, Heston drove a chariot, while Chris was behind the wheel of a 2005 Freightliner Argosy – which he bought at auction in 2007. “I also have six trailers and carry equipment mainly,” he said. 57-year-old Chris is based at Withcott near Toowoomba in the Lockyer Valley and his company is Hockey Haulage.

An owner-operator for the past 31 years, Chris barracks for the Brisbane Broncos in the NRL.

Quietly spoken, Chris said there was generally not enough rest areas which are truckie friendly.

“Beside some roads there are plenty, whilst others don’t have enough,” he said.

Chris said most of his work is done around the east coast of Australia.
