Brisbane Convoy for Kids

Bling'd Up Trucks - - News - Article by Daniel Murphy

The Brisbane Convoy For Kids is a huge event that started five years ago. The event is getting bigger and better every year. Last year’s event raised much needed funds for the Redcliffe and Beenleigh Special Schools. An auction for Braxton’s life saving brain surgery trip to America was also held. During the day the kids had rides, a petting zoo and one of the major events, the truck pull. The truck pull this year involved two almost identicle Isuzu trucks. Two teams had to verse one another to pull the truck across the finish line. They put some colourful characters behind the wheel of these trucks and the event turned into a comedy act that will surely be talked about for the next year. Over 240 trucks and over 35 utes along with a bus followed each other through the gates of the Redcliffe showgrounds greeting the smiles of hundreds of spectators who enjoyed the site of these big polished up trucks. One of this year’s major sponsors, Hasting Deerings CAT, donated equipment to help set up and run the event, but they also put eleven client trucks they brought from around Australia into the convoy making a spectacular entrance into the venue. Numerous singers from Jayne Denham, Kerry Kennedy and Double Barrel joined other acts to add to the already bright atmosphere for the Night Lights Parade and fireworks. The event raised enough to hand over $10,000 to each special school, and bought a cold cuddle cot worth over $5,000 for a South East Queensland Hospital.
