Once More ‘ Round The Sun Warner

Blunt - - In Review -

From bizarre concept albums and elemental themes they smartly never let themselves get comfortable; each new Mastodon record brings change for the Atlanta quartet. Eschewing the shining brutality of 2011’s The Hunter, on Once More ‘Round The Sun Mastodon embrace their more Southern inclinations and inject their sludgy psychedelia with gleaming classic metal. With producer Nick Raskulinecz (Foo Fighters, Trivium) adding his mix of sharp rock gruffness, the riffs of lead single “High Road” – as well as the relentless bounce (!?) of “Halloween” – show a focused new side of Mastodon. Once More ‘Round The Sun refers to the cycle of time and the evolution of creativity, something the album reflects only too well.
