CROWN THE EMPIRE

Resistance: Rise Of The Runaways Rise/ Warner

Blunt - - In Review - SARAH O’CONNOR

Yes, Crown The Empire are another slick Rise metalcore band. Before you turn the page though, be aware they do possess some qualities to separate themselves from the glut of Warped Tour sound- alikes clogging up your streaming device of choice. No, it isn’t the two singers handling the screaming and singing nor is it the tired concept record shtick, this time involving some dystopian nonsense. It’s that when singer Andrew Velasquez gets his turn in the spotlight we get treated to the best mid- career My Chemical Romance bombast the Jersey lads never committed to tape. Yes, “Millenia” is that good it should have been on The Black Parade. To their credit, the splashes of classic nu emo melodrama, cock rock sass, choirs and piano spice up the bland mosh soup. We’ll pass on a serving for now, but greatness definitely awaits.
