Who is in your band?
Tim Tan ( vocals); Chad Lambert ( guitar); Chris Gardiner ( bass,); Mike Searle ( drums).
What’s your story?
We’re a pop rock band who formed from various members of many past Perth bands. Chad and Mike were in The Main Attraction together, and after its demise they decided to keep going with a new outfit called Calm Collected. Chris played bass in a band called Vice Versa/ ex- The Milkshake Strategy and was soon called up on bass. Finally after a search for a vocalist, they found high school student Tim Tan to sing for them. It was in March 2014 that Calm Collected were officially a band.
When did you realise being in a band was the best way to waste time?
I think we all realised this at quite an early age, just not together. We’ve all been in plenty of bands prior to this one, with some spanning from high school. I think it was from there that we figured out – one way or another – that making music beat doing homework.
Why should we check out your band?
Because we’re a fun and brand new pop rock band who make music that can make you jump and dance. Our music is filled with catchy riffs and big choruses that are paired with guitar driven instrumentation that can be enjoyed by all kinds of pop- punk/ pop rock fans.
You’ll like us if you listen to…
All Time Low, Fall Out Boy, The Summer Set, We Are The In Crowd and Paramore.
When will you know you’ve made it?
I think the greatest indication of making it is being able to live off just the music and shows. We’re in this for the long haul and the only reason we’re here is because we love it so much. So if the stars aligned and we were able to do this for a living, then I’ll believe we’ve truly made it.
Who would you be stoked to share the stage with?
I think I speak for us all when I say Green Day and Blink- 182 would be a dream come true. I’d also personally love to collaborate with Patrick Stump from Fall Out Boy and Billie Joe from Green Day!
What’s your favourite place to play and why?
YMCA HQ in Leederville. It’s just the right venue for our music and what we wanna do. It’s all ages and located in a fairly central area. Some of our favourite and most incredible shows have been at that venue.
Why should we check out your new EP?
I feel that it has all the elements to entertain pop rock/ pop- punk listeners. We feel like it’s a massive step up from our old material and that we have really brought something great to the plate of the Australian scene. Give Me Your Worst is out now via Firestarter Distribution.
