The WA Food Ambassador visited Broome earlier this month to explore his idea of exporting Kimberley bush foods into China.

Don Hancey attendedpresentations on native bush food at the Fair Food Forum on May 2, hosted by the Kimberley Alliance for Nutrition at Notre Dame University’s Broome campus.

While the community forum was very much focused on issues surrounding access to fresh, quality food in the Kimberley, Mr Hancey said it was an opportunity for him to learn more about bush foods and delve into his vision of exportation to China.

“I’m currently doing work in China and there’s a huge interest in wanting to know more about our bush foods,” he said.

“The Chinese culture understands more than westerners about the benefits of eating foods that fill the body with good health. I definitely see a commercial viability in the exportation of bush foods into China and other markets.”
