Designs to dazzle in Darwin
A collaboration between Melbourne designers and Fitzroy Crossing artists has resulted in a stunning range of clothing and fashion accessories to be showcased in Darwin.
Artists Amanda Smith, Leanne Williams and Natalie Davey, of Marnin Studio, have been working with Lois McGruen Fraser, of Lois Hazel, Kari Layton, of Lott Studio, and Myra Spencer and Breeze Powell, of Post Sole Shoes, ahead of a runway show at the upcoming Darwin Aboriginal Art Fair.
The team has put together 12 outfits, which include shoes, clothing and jewellery.
Ark Clothing Co and Earthed Foundation founder Jen Layton said it helped form the partnership through its work minimising disadvantages in remote areas.
“We’ve been coming up for a few months,” she said.
“The Marnin Studio has some brilliant artists, printers, painters and textile bush dyers.”
Ms Layton said because there were quite a few younger artists in Fitzroy Crossing, it was a good opportunity to bring up other like-minded people.
