Liquor Li­cens­ing Court Judge Rod­ney Greaves has re­served his de­ci­sion on the fate of the Roe­buck Bay Ho­tel’s clos­ing time af­ter a fi­nal week of hear­ings in Broome re­cently.

Night­club owner Peter Tier­ney, se­cu­rity com­pany owner Cameron Innes, Ho­tel owner Brian Cop­pin and pun­ters gave ev­i­dence on the ho­tel’s need for ex­tended trad­ing hours. The hear­ing was ad­journed mid-week to al­low Judge Greaves to in­spect the Roe­buck, Tokyo Joe’s and the Nip­pon Inn night­clubs.

For the first time in Broome, mu­sic stu­dents will have the chance to be graded against an in­ter­na­tion­ally recog­nised benchmark with an ex­am­iner from the Aus­tralian Mu­sic Ex­am­in­ers Board visit­ing Broome in Septem­ber. Kimberley School of Mu­sic pro­pri­etor Kerry Butcher said fi­nan­cial sup­port had been ob­tained from the AMEB and the Broome Arts and Mu­sic Foun­da­tion to fly in an ex­am­iner from Perth.

FIVE YEARS AGO July 26, 2012

Sea Shep­herd’s flag­ship ves­sel Steve Ir­win is head­ing to Broome to cam­paign against the $35 mil­lion Browse gas hub at James Price Point. The group said di­rect ac­tion was planned to save a whale nurs­ery off the Kimberley coast af­ter last week’s con­di­tional ap­proval for the $40 mil­lion Browse LNG project.
