Liquor Licensing Court Judge Rodney Greaves has reserved his decision on the fate of the Roebuck Bay Hotel’s closing time after a final week of hearings in Broome recently.
Nightclub owner Peter Tierney, security company owner Cameron Innes, Hotel owner Brian Coppin and punters gave evidence on the hotel’s need for extended trading hours. The hearing was adjourned mid-week to allow Judge Greaves to inspect the Roebuck, Tokyo Joe’s and the Nippon Inn nightclubs.

For the first time in Broome, music students will have the chance to be graded against an internationally recognised benchmark with an examiner from the Australian Music Examiners Board visiting Broome in September. Kimberley School of Music proprietor Kerry Butcher said financial support had been obtained from the AMEB and the Broome Arts and Music Foundation to fly in an examiner from Perth.

Sea Shepherd’s flagship vessel Steve Irwin is heading to Broome to campaign against the $35 million Browse gas hub at James Price Point. The group said direct action was planned to save a whale nursery off the Kimberley coast after last week’s conditional approval for the $40 million Browse LNG project.
