New youth bike park a step closer
A new Youth Bike Precinct at BRAC is a step closer with significant funding now secured and detailed planning nearing completion. The BRAC 1 Youth Bike Precinct is earmarked for land off Frederick St between BRAC and the Boulevard. The Shire has allocated $85,000 to the project this year, with a further $85,000 in grant funding secured from the WA Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries. The Shire is also now seeking corporate and community supporters to help get the project up and running by providing in-kind contributions or funding towards earthworks, plant and equipment hire, clean fill and forming of jumps and other features. The master plan for the site includes a mountain bike ‘pump track’, mountain bike and walking trails, an informal dirt jumps area, BMX track, shade, seating and drinking water, with construction of the bike pump track planned for this financial year. Broome Shire President, Harold Tracey, says it’s an important project that will provide new opportunities for youth in Broome. “As a Council we want to provide activities for our young people that promote physical activity and healthy living,” Cr Tracey says.
