The Broome Recreation and Aquatic Centre’s annual virtual swim has been given a local twist for 2018.

The inaugural Beach 2 Bay Virtual Swim will be taking place in the BRAC pools this Sunday, replacing the Virtual Rottnest Channel Swim.

Shire of Broome sport and recreation manager Casey Zepnick said the event was designed to replicate the distance to swim from Cable Beach to Roebuck Bay but without the logistical and safety challenges.

“The Beach 2 Bay Virtual Swim is aimed at swimmers of all abilities, with categories for solo swimmers, duos, teams of four, or novelty teams of up to 10 members for those just starting out,” he said. “We felt Broome deserved its own event and that the concept of swimming the distance from Cable Beach to Roebuck Bay was a more relevant challenge for local people.”
