One of Australia’s most loved musicians has announced he will be travelling to Broome as part of a new national tour.
Byron Bay singer-songwriter Pete Murray will be performing at the Roebuck Hotel on July 1 in an extensive, three-piece acoustic tour playing intimate club shows across Australia.
Mr Murray said he enjoys acoustic tours but he has never done a three-piece tour before in Australia.
“I’m looking forward to touring in a three piece band — it’s going to be great fun,” he said.
“It will be all about three-part harmonies and some organic loops and beats as well as a stompbox.
“I haven’t been to Broome for a few years so I’m looking forward to returning although I won’t be there as long as last time.”
“Last time I was there, it felt like a week-long holiday and I got up early every morning to go to the beach and have a swim.”
During the tour, which kicks off in Perth on June 29, Murray will be supported by newcomer Matthew Armitage.
Murray said Armitage was a good friend from Byron Bay and he really wanted to get his mate out on tour.
“(Armitage) is an amazing guitarist and his style sounds like he’s from the ’50s or ’60s,” he said.
“I’ve been following him around for a while and I think (the tour) will give him a go and get him out in front of more people that would appreciate his music.
“I tend to find a lot of fellow Byron Bay artists and take them on tours with me and they generally get a good reaction.”
The tour was announced after Murray dropped his latest single, a remix of his song Heartbeats by Peter Mayes from Australian electronic outfit PNAU.
Murray said he really wanted to do a remix of Heartbeats and was put in touch with Mayes, who was more than happy to do it.
“We had a massive chat about how it was going to be done because I wanted it to kind of stay in line with what I do and I wanted to play it live as well in future shows,” he said.
“Peter did a great job on the mix and I’m really happy with it.
“The remix is more of a continuation of me experimenting as I have done in my album Camacho with more beats and loops, just taking little steps further away from what I’ve done before.”
