Eight-month-old dober­man Jett risked his life to save his play­mate, three-year-old kelpie Honey, from a shark at­tack near Gantheaume Point.

Owner Lyn Pow­ell said she was en­joy­ing a morn­ing walk when Honey was pulled un­der the wa­ter yelp­ing af­ter jump­ing in to look for her toy rope, lead­ing to Jett leap­ing to the res­cue.

Honey es­caped the at­tack shaken but un­scathed.

10 YEARS AGO April 3, 2008

A twist of events al­lowed Kim­ber­ley women a chance to strut their stuff to com­pete for a spot at the na­tional fi­nal of the Miss Uni­verse com­pe­ti­tion.

A for­mer pageant or­gan­iser was or­gan­is­ing re­gional fi­nals in Broome, Bunbury and Ger­ald­ton to open up the com­pe­ti­tion, but the events were later can­celled due to con­tract dis­putes.

How­ever, there was a ma­jor turn­around, al­low­ing the re­gional fi­nals to take place.

FIVE YEARS AGO April 4, 2013

Tributes flooded in af­ter the death of for­mer Kim­ber­ley MP Ernie Bridge in Perth on March 31.

The 76-year-old was WA’s first Abo­rig­i­nal MP and the first in­dige­nous Cabi­net min­is­ter in any Aus­tralian gov­ern­ment.

The out­spo­ken coun­try singer served as Kim­ber­ley MLA from 1980 to 2001.
